So Khronos released a new version of openGL and while it doesn’t contain any revolutionary changes is clearly a step in the right direction and i can’t wait to test some of them out, all i need now is a new gpu, but there is some things i might add to my game engines that i can test now like ARB_texture_storage.
So check it out now as nvidia already has drivers available

A few days ago we saw the release of a video from a company called Euclidion showing of something they called unlimited detail.
Well first off right off the bat, it’s not really unlimited detail, fractals have unlimited detail, but this isn’t fractals it’s as they claim to be point clouds, but the truth is that it’s something called “sparse voxel trees”.
technically with this technology you can achieve detail at any level, but it’s far from unlimited, instead its just different in that it has different limitations. Continue reading →
It’s safe to say that i kind of look up to Carmack as a source of inspiration and whenever id releases or hints at a new graphics technology i alway try to see if i can implement it myself, when doom was released i did the volumetric shadowing, sure my data wasn’t as good but at least i demonstrated the basic premise.
So i guess it’s about time to start looking into megatexturing soon (but only after i do deferred rendering).
Anyway this talk deals a lot with rage and the lessons learned in it’s production.
I have been working on this for months now, total render time is about a week and it’s still pretty low quality, if you look close you can even see some tga compression artifacts, but it would take me weeks to re render so i will let it be for now.
